Chimney and leadwork with Checka Roof focuses on stopping leaks at the most common weak points on pitched roofs.
We survey the stack, pots and flashings, check mortar joints and flaunching, and confirm whether water is tracking in through cracked lead, failed step flashings, porous brickwork or a worn back gutter. Where required we repoint the stack, rebuild damaged sections, renew flaunching, fit new chimney pots or bird guard cowls, or cap redundant flues.

We restore tired stacks by renewing mortar joints, stabilising loose bricks and rebuilding flaunching at the crown. Chimney pots are refitted or replaced, and we can add stainless steel cowls to improve draw and reduce rain entry. Any defective haunching is removed and rebuilt so water sheds cleanly and the stack is secure.
Leaking abutments are solved with new lead step flashings, soakers and back gutters set to the correct codes for the location. Aprons and valleys are formed with proper laps and fixings, welded corners and allowance for thermal movement. Joints are dressed neatly and finished with patination oil to help keep staining at bay.
We track the source of damp using targeted tests, then address the cause rather than masking the symptom. Options include fitting or renewing trays, reseating pots, resealing ridge junctions and improving ventilation pathways. Where helpful we add weathering caps or discreet over-flashing so the area remains watertight in heavy rain.

Yes. If the lead tray or back gutter has failed, we remove the old section and fit a new code-compliant lead tray with correct upstands, laps and discharge into the adjacent guttering. We also check the rear aprons, side soakers and step flashings so the whole junction works as a system. Where needed, we renew the saddle and repoint the back of the stack before sealing. Every replacement is formed to suit the chimney size and roof covering, with joints dressed and sealed to prevent capillary action. Once completed, we water test the area and clear any debris so rainwater runs away freely.
We tackle everything from local repointing to partial rebuilds. First we assess the stack for loose or perished mortar, spalled bricks and any movement. Repointing uses suitable mortar for the brick type, packed fully to resist weathering. If bricks are damaged, we replace them like for like and reset courses to plumb. We renew flaunching around the pots to shed water, check the lead flashings and fit cowls on request to improve draw and keep birds out. Where a stack is beyond repair, we can take it down to roof level or rebuild sections safely, coordinating access and protection for the roof below.
We repair minor splits and poor laps, but if the lead is too thin, cracked or incorrectly detailed, we recommend replacement. New lead flashings, aprons, soakers and step flashings are cut, wedged and pointed correctly into the brickwork with suitable sealant or mortar. For valleys, we fit new code-rated lead with proper welted edges, expansion allowance and correct support underneath, then dress it neatly to shed water. We also check adjacent tiles or slates, underlay and battens so the junction is sound. The result is durable leadwork that copes with movement and keeps the chimney and roof junction watertight.
Most leaks start at failed leadwork, open mortar joints, cracked flaunching or porous brickwork. Wind-driven rain often finds gaps at the back gutter, step flashings or around the pots. Our fix begins with a careful inspection and a controlled water test if needed. We renew or re-dress lead flashings and soakers, replace perished back gutters or trays, repoint open joints and re-bed the flaunching. If frost damage has weakened bricks, we swap them out and apply breathable protection where appropriate. We also clear blockages, fit cowls if requested and tidy the roof surface so water can run off cleanly, stopping the leak at its source.
